An affair is never a good thing for a potential presidential candidate, and while Al Gore had small odds to begin with, the alleged affair will only hurt his odds. Online gambling sites are offering betting odds on who will win the 2012 Presidential election, and Gore’s odds have dropped in the past twenty-four hours.

A couple of weeks ago, Americans were stunned to learn that Al and Tipper Gore were separating through divorce after forty years of marriage. Now, reports are circulating that it was an Al Gore affair with Larry David’s ex-wife, Laurie David, that caused the Gore divorce.

Laurie David has denied the story that was run in Star magazine, but that has not changed anything as far as Gore’s betting odds to become the next president. Online sports books had Gore with odds of over sixty to one even before the alleged affair, and now his odds have grown to almost seventy to one.

The fact that President Obama is a fellow Democrat already had Gore as a long shot. In all likelihood, the president will be the Democratic nominee to retain his job come 2012. Gore would only have come into play had the nation completely soured to President Obama.

Ironically, it was a presidential run against George Bush that brought the solidarity of the Gores’ marriage to the forefront of American culture. Gore lost that election after a controversial vote in Florida where Bush’s brother Jeb, was serving as governor.

It is common for online gambling sites to offer odds on elections and other political or entertainment situations. Recently, odds were placed on which species of animal would become extinct because of the BP oil spill. In Entertainment, betting takes place on who will win popular reality competitions such as American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.
